The journey before the journey

Airport travel checklist and traffic checks

Plan the drive, parking handover and terminal arrival together. Use this checklist to turn a parking reservation into a practical departure plan.

Five checks before you leave home

  1. Match the airport, terminal and dates.Use the airport code on your flight confirmation. Belfast City and Belfast International, Glasgow and Glasgow Prestwick, and Southampton Airport and the cruise port are different destinations. Check your return terminal too.
  2. Save the actual parking entrance.A terminal postcode, hotel address and storage compound may be three different places. Save the booked product name, entrance instructions, vehicle registration and operator telephone number. A map search helps locate an area; the confirmation identifies where you are expected.
  3. Include every stage of the transfer.A five-minute bus journey excludes reception, unloading, the wait for the next departure and walking inside the terminal. A meet-and-greet reservation may still involve a walk or shuttle. Use the named product's current instructions.
  4. Check what happens if plans change.Read the amendment deadline and late-return terms. Check how to update a changed vehicle registration, return flight or terminal. Keep the provider's contact details available without relying on airport Wi-Fi.
  5. Check the road and the weather before setting off.Look for closures on the date and direction of your journey, including overnight works. Recheck shortly before departure; yesterday's clear route is not a forecast for today.

Our airport guides bring the local approach roads and official terminal information together. If you are still choosing a service, compare park and ride, walking access and meet and greet.

Make the timing visible

Build your airport time allowance

Enter your own allowances in minutes. Use your airline's required terminal-arrival time, the parking provider's instructions and a current route estimate. There is no universal arrival allowance that suits every flight.

This calculation stays on your device. It does not store your entries or send them to a booking service.

Why the parking transfer time is only part of the total

For example, a traveller entering 60 minutes of driving, 15 minutes for parking, 15 minutes waiting, a 10-minute transfer, 30 minutes of contingency and 120 minutes at the terminal gets a total of 250 minutes: 4 hours 10 minutes. These are illustrative inputs, not recommended allowances for a particular airport or flight.

Do not reduce your airline's required arrival allowance simply because the road is quiet. Bag-drop closing times and boarding deadlines are separate from the scheduled take-off time.

Three details a parking label will not tell you

Who keeps the keys?

A walkable car park can still be staff-parked. A self-park rate and a charging rate at the same address can have different key arrangements. Choose by the exact tariff and confirm how the car can be moved.

Where does the car stay overnight?

With Park-Sleep-Fly, the hotel night and holiday parking can begin at different addresses. Establish whether you park first, stay first or leave the car at the hotel, and include any separate overnight charge.

Compare parking sequences

Is EV charging actually included?

A charging point listed among facilities is not a charging reservation. Confirm the named charging package, connector, cable arrangements, included energy and who will move the vehicle. Check any roof-box or vehicle-size restriction separately.

Arrange assistance across the whole journey

The Civil Aviation Authority advises requesting assistance when booking or, if possible, at least 48 hours before departure through your airline, travel agent or tour operator. Explain the support you need and keep written confirmation. Ask the parking provider separately about the route from the vehicle to the airport's assistance point.

For a shuttle, confirm boarding access, wheelchair or mobility-aid arrangements and help with luggage. For walking access, check the surfaces, crossings and distance. The presence of an accessible parking bay does not answer all of those questions.

Make the return journey as clear as departure

Save where to collect the car, when to telephone and whether you should collect luggage first. For park and deliver, the return handover can be at the terminal even though you took a shuttle on departure. For self-park, photograph the parking zone and nearest stop before leaving the vehicle.

Check the parking end time against the expected time you will reach the car, allowing for immigration, baggage and the transfer. If a flight is delayed, use your provider's instructions for contacting the parking team; do not assume every tariff handles an overstay in the same way.

Security, travel documents and weather

Requirements can depend on the airport, airline and destination. Check the departure and return arrangements, rather than carrying forward the rules from a previous trip.
